The Winery Salzl

A family business with character

A traditional winery

Surrounded by one of the world’s most beautiful nature reserves, a very special estate unfolds in the middle of Illmitz in Burgenland: the Christa & Rudi Salzl family winery is located on the edge of the Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel National Park.

The trend towards rationalization is giving rise to large and central wineries in many places. However, there are still small wineries that continue to cultivate their wines with leisure, allow them to mature finely and patiently bring them to the highest quality – and our Salzl winery in the national park is one of them.

Wine culture at its finest.

Due to our proximity to the national park, we produce our wines in a very natural way and use a minimum of sprayed chemicals in the vineyards. But nature also plays its part: due to the nearby Lake Neusiedl, the mild microclimate, the perfect thermal conditions and the sandy soils contribute ideally to the ripeness and fullness of the wine. Wine lovers and critics are sure to acquire a taste for our wines!

Sustainability in the vineyard

It is important to keep the vineyards in the best possible condition so that viticulture can continue as a livelihood for generations to come. This idea is extremely important to us as a family business. We also rely on handcraft in our vineyards throughout the year.

Sustainability in the wine cellar

The careful use of resources and energy-saving work are very important to us. The selection of materials and packaging is also an essential aspect when it comes to sustainability.

Our concrete egg: Here our Traminer thrives in peace and carelessness until the bottle is filled.

In this container without corners and edges, the wine can move smoothly and as a result it becomes creamier and more mineral.

Due to the thermal behavior of the concrete, the wine is cooled particularly well and it tastes fresher and fruitier and can be stored for a long time.

Salzl family

The foundation of our winery consists of the people who live there and their enthusiasm for working in and with nature. For three generations now, our winery has stood for full-bodied delicacies of the very highest quality. Extensive experience, a passion for cultivation and a love of tasteful detail have resulted in the creation of special fine wines year after year.
